Capacity 2
Support colleagues through
collaboration, communication and community
collaboration, communication and community

a quote from my blog...
Collaboration, Communication, Community
These are definitely a few of my favourite things! And I am so grateful that I work with such wonderful colleagues who want to collaborate and communicate about what we are doing in our classrooms! It is such a wonderful sense of community, especially in my wing of the school where many of us plan together and do the same things with our students.
For example, I am doing my second field study on the concept of Genius Hour and blogging with my class and it is so wonderful that my neighbour down the hall, Hugh, is doing the exact same activities with his grade 7s. We talk, email and tweet about what we are doing (successes, struggles) everyday and it is so valuable to have this sense of community here and to know that I am not trying out new activities/teaching styles on my own but that there is someone here in the exact same boat as me.

This is quickly becoming my favourite capacity. I love working with my colleagues as a group. Planning, collaborating, helping each other...this is one of my favourite parts about teaching at Vanier. My grade group and I do this a lot! I am also really enjoying being a mentor at my school. Just a few minutes ago, an LST teacher came into my room to ask me about glogster and my advice on using a program to help with a character study, so I showed her museum box and we looked at that together. I love the sense of community here and I really enjoy being in the role of mentor to others. It is fantastic that I am able to, already, share the knowledge I have gained through this program with other teachers!

I have begun to communicate my learning from this program with my colleagues at school. Everyone knows that I am in this program and they have begun to seek me out as a technology advisor. I am really enjoying helping my coworkers build their class websites, use blogs and join my PLN on twitter (follow me @gallit_z).
In fact, by being in this program I have become more of a leader at my school and this has really confirmed for me that I do indeed want to continue my learning, get my masters and go into admin.

For this field study I have decided to work with classmates
Marianne & Sarah.
As we work on this field study we are
constantly communicating, collaborating and helping each other.
